Wanna Dress Like Steve Nash?

Wanna look like Steve Nash?...without the receding hair line? Now you can! Oh i forgot to mention you have to have at least $500 to get the basic "Nash" look. Steve Nash recently launched his own line of suits with Indochino, a US company that makes custom suits. Nash also tweeted about the partnership: "I'm proud to announce my own line of custom suits from @Indochino ...I have been wearing @Indochino suits for three years and have recently joined the company as a proud investor," Nash

Steve Nash is friends and business partners with Indochino Chairman, Jeff Mallet who is also one of the co-owners of the Vancouver Whitecaps soccer team.

Here are a few pictures of these "Nash" looks you could soon be sporting.

September 13th Steve Nash Opens TSX with Liquid Nutrition

Steve Nash rang  the opening bell to open the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Steve Nash visited Toronto September 13, 2011 to open trading in Toronto Stock Exchange that day. September 13th marked the three month anniversary of their listing, Liquid Nutrition on the TSX. Liquid Nutrition, is a maker of nutritional beverages. Steve Nash is a partner of this Quebec based chain that serves juice, smoothes and electrolyte enriched water. There are about fifteen retail outlets in Quebec, with plans to bring about the same number of stores in Toronto in the following year. There are hopes of opening up stores in the international market as well in the next five years.
Liquid Nutrition is to help busy people and athletes get healthy drinks to fuel their bodies when they might not have the time to eat whole foods. “When I think about what I want to eat, this is it; getting whole foods, getting it in a drink, where you can take it on the go.’ Nash said. “It’s great for me and I think it’s great for a lot of people in society where we’re in a rush and time is of the essence.”
We may very soon be seeing Liquid Nutrition on every street corner!

Hey Steve, the Prime Minister is Calling! Canada Basketball needs you...

Disclaimer: Opinions in the piece is of no ones but the writers (bias Canadian Steve Nash fan opinion)
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Continue to read on if you wish to understand my take on Steve Nash and the Canadian National team.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With the NBA lockout in full force and Canadian Men's National basketball team is practicing at Ryerson University in Toronto, preparing for the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship that will be taking place later this month in Mar del Plata, Argentina. (qualifying tournament for the 2012 London Summer Olympics) What sparked me to write this piece was an article I read about Steve Nash and his role on the Canadian National team done by the Toronto Star, Click here to read it. I'm not sure how others perceived the article but i found it more attacking Steve and his decision to not join the Canadian National team.

Here's a brief history of Steve Nash and team Canada, and let's not forget Steve is 37 with many business and charitable ventures not to mention his family.

  • 1993 while in college played for the National team and competed in the Canada games and World University Games taking home bronze at the Canada games and silver at the World University Games. (Age 19)
  • Nash was the captain of the 2000 Canadian National team lead Canada to their best 7th place finish at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. After the heart breaking loss to France in the quarter finals Nash left the court in tears saying, "It hurts a lot. I feel like i let everyone down. We could have been in the championship game. We were good enough." (Age 26)
  • Steve Nash and the Canadian National Team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics
  • 2004, Steve Nash led team Canada during the qualifying tournament for the 2004 Summer Olympics at the Americas Olympic Qualifying Tournament in San Juan. Steve was named tournament MVP even though Canada fell short of the third and final qualifying spot. (Age 30)

Steve Nash and Team Canada at the World  Championships

Since that 2004 qualifying tournament Steve Nash has never returned to the Canadian National team, it's been  seven years since then, why are people now calling out to Nash to play for Canada again? In my opinion he shouldn't be seen as an enemy wanting to refuse to play for the Canadian National team at the age of 37! It is clear that he has done his time in the red and white jersey and he did a very good job while doing it, especially with Canada's best showing on the basketball stage with a seventh place finish in the 2000 Olympics.
On the current competing Men's National team there are only two NBA players on the roster out of a possibly 6 or 5 if you don't count the sour dismissal of Samuel Dalembert from the National Team in 2008 (He should be the one on the receiving end of the awkward stares). Joel Anthony of the Miami Heat and Andy Rautins of the New York Knocks are the only two NBA players on the roster, not to mention both of these guys are real up and coming in the NBA! Joel Anthony started for the Miami Heat this season with their run in the NBA finals, while fellow Canadian team mate Jamaal Magloire had more of a, let's say time filler role on the team. It's evident the National team has the ability to help these young guys develop not only their game but their character on and off the basketball court.

None of the other Canadian NBA players are quite as old as Nash and many of them haven't really had a real run with team Canada. We all know if Steve Nash slipped on the Canadian jersey just one more time it would make a world of a difference for the national team. Many sports writers came up with the idea of Nash sitting out for the qualifiers but if the team qualified for the Olympics Nash should play with the team, he has not bitten on that line.

If Jamaal Magloire, Samuel Dalembert and the newly drafted Tristan Thompson represented team Canada at this years qualifier in Argentina it would make the chances of making the 2012 Olympics a whole lot easier. I say the same thing to what some are saying about Steve Nash not playing for Team Canada, "it's an NBA lockout what else could you be doing?".
Taking advice from Lazy Smurf?

All in all i do not think Nash should be taking the heat for not wanting to play for team Canada at the ripe age of 37. During his time with team Canada he did it willingly and proudly, I would love to see Steve Nash wearing a Canadian jersey but i don't think that will be happening again. Steve Nash being my idol, it would be amazing to have a chance to see him represent his country on the world stage! Not to mention him playing on Canada would make it a whole lot easier to track down a number 7 Canada jersey with Nash on the back! I respect all of the choices Nash makes whether he decides to play on the national team or not, or even if he choose to leave the Phoenix Suns in chase of a championship. I know anything Steve Nash decides is something that is thought out and have good reasons. That's my take on Steve Nash and the Canadian National team, what's your take?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE.

Steve Nash doesn't need to play for the Canadian National team how about him being on the board of directors, sorta like lending his name to the cause to promote Canada basketball. If they got him on board can give the organization more exposure equaling more participation by fellow NBA players.
Former Raptors player Matt Bonner is having his Canadian citizenship application fast tracked in hopes of being a part of team Canada as soon as possible. (no update yet) Matt Bonner is married to Canadian Nadia, whom he met in Toronto while playing for the Raptors.

Matt Bonner to Canadian National Team? Could be very soon!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now you can return to your usual schedule.

Steve Nash chooses Luyou

Steve Nash is not new to the business side of being an athlete, earlier this year Steve Nash has been hammering out a deal with Chinese shoe company Luyou, the two time MVP will be the company's brand ambassador while the company will allow for Steve Nash and his foundation to further their efforts in assisting the underserved children. Steve Nash does not base business decisions on how much and how fast he can be making money but rather how the business deal will benefit the Steve Nash Foundation and the kids. Luyou is confident in Nash's ability to lift the company onto the global stage, with hopes of opening flagship stores in major cities such as Shanghai or Beijing. Luyou is committed to cost control of their products helping them remain competitive with other retailers. Steve Nash is not the first NBA player to sign a shoe deal with an Asian shoe company Peak outfitting Jason Kidd with shoes on the basketball court.

Here is an article about the shoe deal made in heaven: Steve Nash & Luyou

Steve Nash visited China earlier this summer for the official unveiling of Luyou's logo.

Steve Nash: Great point guard, better human

With the NBA lockout in full effect Steve Nash choose to hold off heading over seas to play, but instead putting his other talents to great use! Steve visited Camp Simcha in New York, a camp for children with chronic illnesses like cancer or other chronic and genetic ailments. It's a place for the children to forget about their disabilities or illness for a while, a place for them to just have fun and do what kids do best play! Every summer Camp Simcha invites 200 seriously ill children to have the summer of their lives with the overnight camp experience.

Steve Nash spent a day with these kids and were amazed by their positive attitude, never looking for sympathy for their situation and were all just there to have a great time forget about their medical needs just for a while.
Here's an article that sums up Steve Nash's visit to the camp, there is also a great video recapping the day. Steve Nash: Great point guard, better human

Not only do the kids look like they had a great time, Steve looked like he had a great time meeting with the kids and hanging out all day!

Nicknames for Steve Nash

Bleacher Report did a great feature on Steve Nash & the endless possibilities of nicknames for him! Phoenix Suns: Nicknames for the NBA's Best Point Guard Steve Nash "Every good basketball player needs a good nickname. But how do you condense all that is Steve Nash into a singular name? Those words/phrases above just don't do him justice. He's more than "all that and a bag of chips." In 9 slides they covered all the possible nickname Nash could have, some better than others! My favorite being "NASHional Treasure" & "One eyed Stevie Wonder". Practice Run

A great new ad by Toyota Canada, doesn't need much to get the point across in this commercial. Simple idea yet gets the job done! Just the Nash we know!

"When Toyota came calling, Nash was listening, and they put together a great spot to promote their cars. It doesn't even mention the car in the entire commercial. All it talks about is Nash and how he feels to be a professional basketball player.

It follows Nash leaving his house for practice in the morning and all the sights and sounds he experiences during his day as the leader of the Suns. As he pulls into the facility, some of the local children are waiting for the local hero to give them an autograph.
Then, out of nowhere, a hilarious moment happens. What it is, I won't tell you, but with Nash having a great comedic voice, it comes off perfectly and leaves you chuckling at the end of it.
I hope this commercial starts going into regular rotation in America so we can all appreciate Nash for more than just his ability to run the point guard position better than most. Hopefully this catches the eye of some companies out there who will try to get Nash in more spots.
He has shown that he can carry an advertisement by himself with this piece."

3 Things You Don't Know About Steve Nash

I stumbled upon this article and had to share it with everyone i knew! Success Magazine did an article on Steve Nash and the three things a normal sports fan wouldn't know about Steve Nash. "Google “Steve Nash video” and see which search result emerges. A swift bounce pass to veteran teammate Grant Hill? Or a clever viral marketing campaign he produced for environmental causes and Fortune 500 companies alike? We’ll bet you 20 Canadian dollars it’s the latter."

The article talks about all of Steve's success off court, his "Global Win's" with his Steve Nash Foundation which he started in 2001 which "serves “underserved” children, an important distinction from “underprivileged,” he says. “Every child deserves basic accommodations, food, shelter and care,” Nash explains. “It’s not a ‘privilege’ as much as a right. So that’s why we say these children are ‘underserved’ their basic needs.”

Some of you may not know but Steve Nash has "A Passion for Learning"! Where did you think he got those unbelievable marketing skills from?  "Nash really has a knack for marketing and advertising. His experience several years ago as an unpaid intern at New York ad agency Deutsch Inc. (the Donnie Deutsch-founded agency created this year’s Super Bowl favorite, the Volkswagen mini- Darth commercial) gave him the footing he needed to be a “legitimate” force in the marketing world"

Steve Nash is also a "Sixty Million Dollar Man", Nash probably isn't far from actually being a $60 million dollar man with all these smart business ventures!  "Nash founded the social media company Apoko with fellow NBA star Baron Davis to help professional athletes manage their personal brands and understand what their social-media strategy should and shouldn’t be (Charlie Sheen, anyone?). Nash also has an ownership stake in Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps, for which his brother, Martin , plays. He most recently partnered with Deutsch Inc. ad agency executive Michael Duda to form a new venture capital company, Consigliere, which will invest in startup companies in sports, technology and other sectors." Some of you may remember those Nike commercials Nash did for his Nike Trash Talk shoes in 2009 for Earth Day. If not here's a refresher!

We all know Steve Nash has the ability to "Making Others Better"he's making people better on and off the court as well! "Nash inherited athletic ability from his professional soccer player father (his brother, Martin, went on to play professional soccer, as well) but learned work ethic from both his parents. “If I had to pick one reason why I made it to the NBA, it would have to be that I worked hard,” Nash says. Sounds cliché perhaps, but hard work really was the factor that launched him to the NBA and propelled him to be among the elite players in the league today. An understated, and perhaps, underrated, star on the basketball court, Nash is a seven-time All-Star named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people. Charles Barkley writes of the guard, “What has he taught us? It pays to be selfless. You can be content just to make the players around you better.” That’s what he does. He’s good at making others better."

To a regular sports fan they may just think of Steve Nash "Just a ‘Short, White, Canadian Kid’" well there is some truth to that statement, he is considered short compared to the typical NBA player, he is a proud Canadian in the NBA and he is just a white kid! Nash had dreams of playing division 1 basketball in college but many people doubted him. What set him aside from other division 1 basketball players was his work ethic, you would never find someone so hard working and driven as Nash. Before or after a game or practice he was in the gym. His work ethic was beyond his years and helped him all the way to his two back-to-back MVP's!  "If his talent didn’t speak loudly enough for him, his work ethic did. In college, although he struggled against players of larger stature, he possessed a work ethic beyond his years. "
